Ryan's first snow

November 16th
Woke up this morning with the announcement of a 2 hour delay! So I just went back to sleep. When I woke up 2 hours later, it was announced that the delay was now 3 hours - all because of fog! This means that school starts 10.40, and sadly we have to stay until 3.55.. But at least I got to sleep in. I wish school could have been canceled instead, and if that would have been the case I would have had online school (e-learning). So many students skipped school this day!

After school, we went to the post office, and Kaitlyn, my friend from drama club, came over to my house. We made a dirt/mud pie (?) that we brought over to the Zach and Savannah's house, who had invited the drama club for dinner! Zach and Savannah work for Youth for Christ, and it is their job to go into the school and interact with the students. I was happy to see them do something very sweet for the drama club, because a lot of times the sports at school gets the most recognition. The dinner was so much fun. We ate spaghetti and afterwards we sang karaoke - Disney songs! We also danced some Just Dance. It was such a fun time that I hope we do again sometime. And later, Kaitlyn cut my hair!

November 18th
A couple of girls from Sue's Sunday school came over for a sleepover! We made pizza, talked, braided oh hair, ate candy and watched "Enchanted". The girls were about 8-11 years old.. Same age as one of my little sisters, that is. It really made me miss Agnes. When we all woke up the next morning we played Twister.. I am proud to say that I won every single time.. 😎

November 19th
First snow of the year! And that also meant that it was the first time, ever, the Ryan experienced snow. He was so excited. The look of it made his face light up. Just seeing him have that experience was incredible. He went outside in shorts and T-shirt and he just kind of stood there, all quiet, lost in thought. The neighbors questioned if he was okay..

Later that day, Brianna, Claire and her friends (whom I have met before) Rachel and Meredith came over. Together we went to the movie theater to watch "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them"! On the way there, we obviously had to stop to buy MC Donald's cookies. The movie was really good. I have anticipated it for such a long time, since I love Harry Potter. I totally went to the movie theater in my costume.. Not that anyone seemed to care. It was actually a pretty empty screening - perhaps because they played the movie every half hour. I definitely think the movie is worth seeing. Bri, Claire and I held hands throughout the entire ending.. And once the movie was over, we went to Coldstone who make some really good ice cream. They somewhat "fold" topping into it!

Today was a stay-at-home kinda day. Sue and I baked cookies after church, Todd lit a fire. Terry, one of Sue's brother, came over with his girlfriend. They bought bagels and traditional Swedish gravlax.. Too bad I don't like fish. Somehow we started talking about 9/11.

I went to Momentum, the youth group, and we had a competition on who was the fastest to text our youth pastor a specific combination of emojis. I won the first price - M&Ms!

Election Day!

November 7th
Kladdkakan's day! Or "Swedish Mudcake Day"- to make it easier. Of course I had to make some!

November 8th
Election Day! Started the day with being interviewed by my mom and her 4th grade class in the morning. Then I went to school, acting as if it was any other day - but I must admit, I was nervous. Indiana is a republican state and the only political signs a I have come across are from republicans (mostly Trump/Pence signs outside people's properties), with the exception of a Bernie car sticker. Have a lot of senior friends and some of them are 18 - meaning that they can vote. I know people who voted for Hillary, another student who voted for Trump and some who didn't vote at all (which is quite upsetting). Sucks a little that there is no way of me affecting the choice. But I was so confident that Hillary Clinton would be the next president. It was not until the next morning (set my alarm to really early just to check the result) it was a fact that America had chosen Donald Trump to be the face of the nation. I was a little upset that day. My organization sent me an email to reassure all students that no one could make our J1 visas invalid. So well - a big difference between Sweden and America is the political views. I am just used to something very different.

Play practice
Throughout all of this week, and every week at this time, I worked on the school play - "The Curious Savage". We had practices 3 times a week, from 6.30-8.00 p.m.

November 11th
I am a part of an organization called "SADD - Students Against Destructive Decisios", and today we had a white out at school - meaning that the students should dress in white for lung cancer awareness. During study hall I walked around and counted how many people in each class was wearing white, and the winning class got donuts. In one class, only one person was not wearing white! Shoutout to Mrs. Rouse's class in A214!

After school, Ryan and I put on a lot of clothes and drove by Subway and Dairy Queen for dinner. Today was the day of our big football game - 3 more games and we would go to state and compete in Indianapolis. The game was against Northwood, which is a school located 1,5 hours away. The school put together a fan bus, so that all students could ride together. We sang songs together, ate chips and played telephone on the ride. I had a Subway sandwich (it is crazy that the honey oat bread is no longer an option?). The game was intense, and it was so cold! I was wearing a think top, long-sleeved shirt, a jacket and a coat. Leggings underneath my jeans, mittens, a beanie and two pairs of socks. Sadly, we lost. "New Haven High School Varsity Football falls to NorthWood High School 52-28". It was really hard to see all the boys on the team cry, especially the seniors. It just hit me that it was my last high school football game. This marked the end of the season. So I went home (easier said than done, it took 1,5 hours) and I slept.

November 12th

Hung out with Claire. We cleaned her room to prepare for her show choir party. Claire took me to CVS where I printed some pictures of memories I have had with Sue.

I went home, ate dinner and changed, for Megan came to pick up Ryan and I, as well as the other two exchange students at New Haven - Joyner and Juwanna. We drove to an outdoor mall - Jefferson Pointe. Firstly we looked in some stores, and then we saw the annual Christmas tree light up ceremony! It was really cozy and I totally got the Christmas vibes. After that, we went to eat at Steak N' Shake, then we roomed around Walmart. Ryan bought some McDonalds. Overall it was a great time spent with friends. It is funny how we all speak different languages and are from such different cultures - yet at that very moment, we were all united. Oh and I will never forget how we fooled Ryan that Megan was engaged!

Ryan found an Indiana mug that was made in Indonesia! (he is from Indonesia)

Sue's birthday! I made a garland with pictures of memories we have had together. Then Ryan brought out a table cloth from Indonesia, so we set the table really nicely. I baked some Swedish mud cake with his help. It was delicious! After church, we helped Todd make tacos. And then we just stayed home and had a good time!

GoMAD & football game

Nov 1
Can not believe November is here! I had play practice tonight and this was the first time we rehearsed on stage. Previously we had been in the choir room - which is way smaller.

Nov 4
Today was the big sectional game - if we won against Bishop Dwenger, we would be sectional champions. Their team ended our season last year. The student section was huge, it might even have been bigger than during homecoming. Claire was there too, and never before did she attend the football games. With a couple cups of hot chocolate and a lot of loud cheering, we won. We beat their team and the Bulldogs were sectional champions. I was so happy and excited. The game was extremely intense, because it was not until the moment the scoreboard said 00:00 that we knew we had won, because the other team played offense, and if they would have scored - that would be the end.

After the game, Ryan, Claire and I headed to Fort Wayne, spending the weekend at GoMAD - an event run by YFC Campus Life, where kids from all over our are get together for a fun but intense time. We had a bunch of fun activities ahead of us as well as sessions/sermons, since a Christian organization was responsible for the event. Before going to the hotel we would be staying at, we went by Claire's house so that she could pick up her stuff. Ryan took a seat in a chair by her front porch, and it fell apart beneath him! It was hilarious. This is not the first time Ryan breaks something.. We like to joke about him breaking lamps. After a couple of laughs, and apologizes from Ryan, we were back on the road. We arrived at the Marriott Hotel in Fort Wayne where we got our rooms assigned - boys and girls separate. Claire and I shared a room with 3 other girls - Erika, Alyssa and Lexy. They had all brought a lot of snacks so we put all of our food on a table. After settling in, Claire, Ryan and I went over to a concert held at the convention center on the other side of the street. This is where the activities took place this weekend. Some rapper performed.. It was not very special. Claire and I went back to the hotel around 11.30, because she had to go take the SAT the next morning! I stayed up a little later talking and eating pizza with my roommates in the hallway.

Nov 5
Started the day with breakfast, and then we had a session and a game. The New Haven kids sat right in front of the stage. One activity was the two leaders having a presidential debate over puns, after that, one student from each school got to build a paper airplane. Whoever threw it the furthest got a pizza night for all its students. The person who threw it the worst got a punishment. When Ashley from New Haven went on stage we all screamed and cheered so loud! She didn't throw it too far though. One airplane swung around and turned back.. The guy who threw it had to eat mayo.. Gross! Once it was over, we had free time. I got back to the hotel and changed. Claire was still taking the SAT. Ally, Brianna, Juwanna, Sophia, Ryan, Savannah and I went to Coney Island where we ate our lunch. It is famous in the Fort Wayne area. The we went to a party store where they sold costumes and simply a bunch of fun stuff. We also went into some boutiques (everything was super expensive but very elegant and cool). After walking around, we went into the convention center where they had a block party! In the huge room there was an inflatable slide, goKart like cars, 9-square game, some people played cars.. Just a time to get to know new people and have fun. I really enjoyed it. When the block party was over, we had KFC sandwiches in the parking garage. The sandwich consisted of a bun and a chicken, alternatively mayonnaise. Not very tasty. But I do love their chips! After spending some time in the hotel, we went back to the convention center for a session. First it was a concert, and then they talked about a lot of serious subjects. A lot of people got emotional and started crying. This night is apparently known as "cry night". All the kids from New Haven went into a room and talked about our lives and struggles. Some people have gone through some really rough times and it was hard to hear. People really let their walls down, and I really felt a sense of unity, like I could truly trust the people around me.

Nov 6

Woke up and put on a onesie that Alyssa lent me. Every student from New Haven wore onesies.. It was fun to see how united we all were. My onesie was really tight though.. Haha! After breakfast, we went over to the convention center. I started talking to a guy working for a college, and turns out he used to love in Sweden! He was planning to move back to! We had such a great conversation. He gave me a frisbee with the college logo on it. We did some fun activities in the convention center. They asked for students who could show off some abnormal human tricks.. It was fun to see a girl burp the alphabet, someone else rabble it backwards, someone walking on their hands and people who could twist their joints in all kinds of ways.. Alec from New Haven ran up on the stage and smacked his face really hard. It was hilarious. There was also a session and a concert. The last session ended at noon. When I came home I ate a sandwich and went to bed. Accidentally fell asleep until 6.00 p.m. I was so scared that I would switch my entire day around!
